Medical Dispensary in Spokane: Care, Consistency, Trust
Crystal Leaves is a medically endorsed dispensary at 3220 N Division St, with a certified medical cannabis consultant on staff and the ability to register you for a Washington recognition card on site.
What It Means to Be a Medically Endorsed Store
In Washington, a medical endorsement is an official designation from the state that allows a licensed cannabis retailer to serve medical patients in ways a standard recreational shop cannot.
Part of that is having a certified medical cannabis consultant on staff, someone who has completed a Department of Health training program and passed a state exam. State rules prohibit a consultant from accepting anything from a producer in exchange for recommending their product.
That endorsement raises the bar for everything else: products tested to stricter Department of Health standards, staff trained to a state curriculum, and a consultant who can register you into the state database.
In practice, that means you can walk in with an authorization and walk out with a recognition card, buy DOH-compliant products tax free, and ask as many questions as you want.
What Patients Can Expect at Crystal Leaves
Answers in plain language
Choosing between product types, understanding what to expect from each one, reading the cannabinoid profile on a label. That's what our consultant is here for. They explain THC, CBD, minor cannabinoids, ratios, onset times, and serving sizes in plain language, and will take as long as the conversation needs.
No cannabis taxes
Washington charges a 37% excise tax on cannabis, plus retail sales tax on top. Patients with a recognition card pay neither on DOH-compliant products bought at a medically endorsed store. Those products aren't part of our Everyday Deal. Everything else in the store gets the 25%.
Triple the purchase limits
A recognition card triples what you can buy in a single transaction: 3 ounces of flower instead of 1, 21 grams of concentrate instead of 7, and proportionally more of everything else.
Getting your recognition card
The first step happens at a healthcare provider's office, not here. Once you have an authorization, call to schedule an appointment with our certified consultant. Bring the authorization and a valid ID, and we'll enter you into the state database and issue your card at the appointment.
Under 21 with a recognition card
Being medically endorsed means we can welcome patients that non-endorsed stores legally can't. Patients aged 18 to 20 with a recognition card can come in and shop for themselves. Patients under 18 with a card are welcome alongside their designated provider, who handles the purchase.
Your information stays confidential
Washington law makes the authorization database confidential and bars sharing it with the federal government absent a state cannabis conviction. We don't keep copies of your card either; the state holds that record.
Product Types Popular With Medical Patients
Every patient’s needs are different. Our consultant can help you compare product types and walk you through how each one works:
- RSO. A thick, full-spectrum extract, usually packaged in an oral syringe so it can be measured in very small amounts. Taken by mouth or added to food. It’s potent: servings are typically a fraction of what you’d expect from other products.
- Tinctures. Liquid extracts taken with a dropper, under the tongue or mixed into a drink. Easy to measure in small, repeatable increments, which makes them a common choice for anyone who wants precise control over serving size.
- Capsules. Pre-measured servings in a swallowed capsule. Nothing to portion out, nothing to inhale, and the serving size is the same every time.
- Topicals. Lotions, balms, and creams applied directly to the skin. Non-intoxicating.
- High-CBD products. Products with high CBD relative to THC, for anyone who wants less of an intoxicating effect.
Beyond these, we stock everything else you’d expect: flower, pre-rolls, vape cartridges, concentrates, edibles, and accessories. Plenty of patients find what works for them outside this list, and if that’s you, we’ll say so.
Medical vs. Recreational: The Basics
Washington runs a single licensed marketplace, so patients and recreational customers shop side by side. Adults 21 and over can shop with a valid ID alone. Patients entered in the state database with a recognition card get higher purchase limits, pay no cannabis taxes on DOH-compliant products, and can shop here under 21.
You don’t need a card to shop at Crystal Leaves, and most of our customers won’t have one. If you’re considering it, our consultant can explain how the process works. Either way, you get the same attention at the counter.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Any adult 21 or older with a valid ID can shop here, and most of our customers do exactly that. A recognition card adds real benefits: higher purchase limits, no cannabis taxes on DOH-compliant products, and store access under 21. But it’s not required to visit or buy.
Three steps. First, see a healthcare provider and get a medical cannabis authorization. That part happens at their office, not ours, and state law requires your first visit with your healthcare practitioner to be in person. It can’t be done by telehealth.
Second, call us and schedule an appointment with our certified consultant. Bring the authorization and a valid ID. One thing worth checking before you come: the authorization has to be printed on tamper-resistant paper with the state logo in the lower-right corner. Your provider should handle that, but a plain printout won’t work.
Third, we enter you into the state’s medical cannabis authorization database and print your recognition card at the appointment.
Adults renew each year. Patients under 18 renew every six months.
You need the card. An authorization from a healthcare provider is what makes you eligible, but until you’re entered into the state database and issued a recognition card, every store in Washington treats you as a regular customer.
If you’ve been shopping on an authorization alone, you’ve been paying the full 37% excise tax plus sales tax this whole time, and buying at standard limits. None of the benefits attach to the authorization. They attach to the card.
The appointment takes care of it.
Registering enters your name into the state’s medical cannabis authorization database. Washington law makes that database confidential and exempt from public disclosure, and specifically bars sharing it with the federal government or its agents unless a patient is convicted in state court under the cannabis laws.
We don’t keep copies of your card; the state holds that record, not us. When you make a tax-exempt purchase, we’re required to keep a record of the sale for five years, including a patient identifier, the card’s dates, and what was bought.
If you have questions about any of it, ask us.
Yes. Bring a current authorization and a valid ID and we’ll issue your renewal the same way we issued the original.
If getting here in person would be a hardship, Washington has a provision for that. It’s called a compassionate care renewal: if your healthcare practitioner determines that renewing in person would cause you severe hardship, your designated provider can pick up your renewal card here on your behalf. Your practitioner has to note it on the authorization, and your designated provider needs their own matching authorization, so raise it at your appointment with them.
